9:30 Coffee Break: Accordion
by Jill Riley and Sean McPherson
June 10, 2015
Marissa of Columbia Heights, Minn., shared this Coffee Break theme idea with us, wanting to focus on songs that feature accordions. "I enjoy seeing some attention paid to instrument choice in music," Marissa writes. "It's not always about the lyrics!"
The accordion is not necessarily a go-to instrument in the world of indie rock, but when it's used, it can add a great new layer to a song.
And while we certainly acknowledge Weird Al Yankovic has made many beloved contributions to the world of music and has used the accordion in many of his songs, we're asking you to stretch yourselves a bit more and think of tracks beyond the work of Weird Al.
So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that feature accordion among the instruments? Send us your requests.
Songs Played
Paul Simon "The Boy in the Bubble"
The Decemberists "Rox in the Box"
Young Rascals "How Can I Be Sure"
Talking Heads "Road to Nowhere"
