In anticipation of the 45th anniversary of First Avenue, Har Mar Superstar is in town and he stopped by The Current to talk live on the air with Jade. Here are a few of Har Mar's quote highlights from the chat:
On what makes his perfect Twin Cities day:
"I always end up in the studio with friends because everyone here is always working on some project, so I'm always jumping in. So at this point, it's going to Ryan Olson's bedroom and singing on some weird track with a thousand guitars going on that I'll probably hear released in, like, four years."
On the first show he attended at First Avenue:
"I think it was Bob Mould's acoustic tour in 1993 or something, when I was a junior in high school. That was the first show I saw in the Mainroom. I saw this band, Scrawl, in the Entry that I really fell in love with; these girls who did this cover of 'Feel Like Makin' Love'."
On what it felt like when he finally got to play at First Avenue:
"At first, you're like, 'What?? This is not like Purple Rain! … From a very young age, it was a very mystical, magical place to me."
On what the audience can expect tonight:
"It's going to be a lot of fun. I've got Lizzo coming out to sing a lot of backups with me; she just makes the vibe a party, I think. [And] I might do one or two of the new songs a cappella just to tease some people, because I started making a new album."
