Mike Mictlan performs live in The Current studio

October 27, 2014
Just this last August Mike Mictlan gave fairgoers a taste of his forthcoming album HELLA FRREAL at Minnesota Public Radio's booth ahead of Doomtree's big MN Music-on-a-Stick grandstand gig.
This time around, Mictlan performed HELLA FRREAL tracks live in The Current's studio including "So So STRAYGNE." He tells the Local Show's host David Campbell that most songs titles on the ten-track release are "Googleable" — they either are spelled differently or have strategically placed apostrophes ("Super'merica," for example).
Mictlan reveals that half of HELLA FRREAL represents the best of what he's done the past 10 years, and the other half is a glimpse of what's to come. Of the tracks performed in the studio, "Tha Brink" is the most lyrically earnest and hopeful, both attributes that align with Mictlan's past work. "CLAPP'D" represents his new artistic direction.
This weekend Mike Miclan will celebrate the release of HELLA FRREAL at the 7th St. Entry on Saturday, Nov. 1 — Dia de los Muetros. Then Mictlan and the rest of the crew will gear up for Doomtree Blowout X, the #LastBlowoutEver. Tickets for this year's events including three First Avenue mainroom shows, a nostalgic Varsity Theater gig and Doomtree's Turf Club debut have officially sold out.
