Delta Spirit perform in The Current studio
by Mark Wheat and Delta Spirit
October 16, 2014
Delta Spirit frontman Matt Vasquez sums up his band's modus operandi very neatly. "We take a folk song and turn it into an ethereal, epic, bigger song," he says. "That's kind of the deal."
Vasquez and the rest of Delta Spirit irrefutably demonstrated that approach when they visited The Current's studio to play some songs and to chat with Mark Wheat. Delta Spirit fully embraced the sound of The Current's studio, even extending their sound check as they played a number of Beatles covers (which were not recorded nor aired).
In town in support of their album, Into the Wide, Delta Spirit are playing a show at First Avenue in Minneapolis tonight. Vasquez cites the Twin Cities and Chicago as being Delta Spirit's favorite Midwestern rock 'n' roll destinations. "And First Avenue," Vasquez adds, "that's some serious crap right there."
