Interview: John Oliver of The Daily Show
by Steve Seel and John Oliver
October 11, 2013
You may recognize comedian John Oliver from his role as Professor Ian Duncan on Community or his gig as the "Senior British Correspondent" on The Daily Show, but he still considers stand-up his default career.
Over this last summer, Oliver stood in for The Daily Show's Jon Stewart, taking over the host's position while Stewart grew a tremendous beard. Usually summers of non-election years are low key, but since Washington seemed to offer an endless amount of material during his eight-week stint — the NSA story broke, DOMA was being debated and, though it may not be his cup of tea, the Royal Baby from his native country was born — and he just wrapped up filming upcoming episodes of Community, Oliver's scheduled some stand-up dates to clear his head.
Listen to the entire interview to hear about Oliver's first day on the job at The Daily Show, his latest gig voicing a character on the new season of The Simpsons and what he has to say about this whole government shutdown situation.
John Oliver performs a stand-up comedy show at the State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis this Saturday, Oct. 12. Some tickets are still available.
